Roula Maalouf, a native of Lebanon, has been teaching Arabic at Thornton Academy since 2011. “Thornton Academy was the first school to offer an Arabic class in the state of Maine,” Maalouf said.

New Staff: Lindsay Butler, Upper School French

French teacher Lindsay Butler shares compassion, patience, and dedication to teaching with her students.  New to TA this year, but with over 12 years experience, Ms. Butler currently teaches French I, IV, and AP French and is leading the exchange program with our partner school (Lycée Nelson Mandela) in Nantes, France. Ms. Butler expresses gratitude to students and staff for being supportive and welcoming during her first few months at TA.

Sailing into new waters: one teacher's summer adventure

For Upper School English teacher Alex Mitchell, the summer of 2017 is one to remember.  Filled with adventures, sunsets, and occasional blaring techno music, Alex spent a month sailing and traveling throughout Italy and Croatia.  As the most experienced sailor on the boat, Alex led the trip and captained the boat.  His adventures remind us to take advantage of opportunities when they present themselves and to explore the big, beautiful world around us.
