On February 8, the Thornton Academy Girls’ Basketball program will host their third annual Hoops for Hope Charity event at Linnell Gymnasium.
The holiday season encourages us to think of others before ourselves. Thornton Academy students have taken this to heart and organized multiple events to collect goods for those less fortunate. Student Council organized a class competition food drive to benefit the Saco Food Pantry. Chinese Club sold bubble tea, dumplings, and other Chinese delicacies to raise over $700 for the Good Shepherd Food Bank. Jobs for Maine Graduates (JMG) participated in a “Battle of the Bridge” clothing drive competition with JMG students from Biddeford High School with donations going to the Salvation Army.
During the whole month of October, $1 from every Hannaford Helps bag sold at the Hannaford Saco will go to the Headmaster's Student Assisstance Fund at Thornton Academy. The HSAF benefits students in need at TA by providing them with free breakfast, lunch, and other necessary school supplies. Bags (pictured below) can be purchased on the racks near the cash registers at the Saco Hannaford. For the $1 to be donated to Thornton Academy, the bag purchased must be the one below and this is only valid at the Saco Hannaford.
